Operation Extreme School Makeover

Update (6/4/10):

The following is an email that we received…

I have attached a few pics from the time that we delivered 2 of the computers to a girls’ school in the city of Khalis. The head mistress was very happy to receive them. It was a very hot day, and you can tell by the sweat on Private Corcoran’s face. He set up the computers at the school. Just to give you a little background, the city of Khalis is a very dangerous place. 2 months ago, Al Qaeda network blew up 2 bombs, killing more than 70 people. And about a month ago, my Soldiers’ trucks were hit by bombs while passing near the city, killing 2 and wounding 3. Despite the insurgents’ activities, our battalion has not backed down in our efforts to build up the city and a better future for the children. We have remodeld a school there and now delivered 2 computers to another school thanks to Pathways. Truly, I thank you and Pathways from the bottom of my heart.

Thanks again, Shawn. And please send my deepest thanks to the good folks at Pathways.

Truly in Christ,
Monch

Pathways Church of Houston seeks to reach out in whatever ways that God may lead us.

We have a great opportunity to reach out to the children of Iraq through a partnership with Army Chaplain Rev. Monch Kim. The children, who are in war torn areas, are badly in need of school supplies and help.

Make it a school or church project where donations are collected and conversations and prayers shared for children in other parts of the world.

Pathways will match up to $1000 in donations for school notebooks for the children.

From Rev. Monch Kim:

“I want to share with you an exciting new mission that my unit, 1-23 Infantry Battalion, has assumed in Iraq. The mission is called Operation Extreme School Makeover. Starting at the end of January 2010, for approximately 3 months, hundreds of our Soldiers will drop their weapons and pick up construction tools to build schools for the poor throughout Diyala Province. Our plan is to build schools in 5 cities in order to improve the learning environment for 1,500 school-aged children.

The purpose of this mission is to build hope and a future for the people of Iraq by reinforcing the importance of education. Schools in Diyala Province are in horrid conditions (no electricity, no windows, no doors, walls breaking down, etc.). Through this project, we hope to improve the children’s learning, to instill self-worth and dignity, and to imbue hope.

As an ambassador of Christ in Iraq, I ask that you prayerfully consider making a donation of school supplies for the Iraqi children. The families are extremely poor, and many children lack the basic tools needed to learn.”

Let’s help these children!
